 Unveiling the Hidden Gem:

Discovering the Enchanting Vultee Arch in Sedona

We all know Sedona, Arizona, is renowned for its stunning red rock formations and captivating landscapes that draw visitors from across the globe. While many are familiar with the iconic landmarks that grace this region, there's a hidden gem waiting to be explored - the lesser-known Vultee Arch. In this blog post, we'll embark on a journey of discovery as we uncover the mesmerizing beauty and allure of the Vultee Arch in Sedona.

Hidden Beauty Unveiled

Tucked away from the beaten path, the Vultee Arch is a natural wonder that rewards those who venture off the main trails with its breathtaking splendor. This sandstone arch stands as a testament to the same geological forces that shaped Sedona's more famous formations. Wind, water, and time have sculpted this arch, resulting in a unique and captivating structure that defies the imagination.

Unlike some of Sedona's more prominent landmarks, the Vultee Arch remains a well-kept secret, offering visitors a more intimate and solitary experience with nature. The last time we visited, we only saw three other people during our hike and short visit at the arch. The quiet surroundings and untouched beauty of this hidden gem create an atmosphere of tranquility, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This is great spot to get away from the normally overcrowded and more popular trails Sedona has to offer.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Adventure

One of the most appealing aspects of the Vultee Arch is the journey required to reach it. As you navigate the trails that lead to this hidden treasure, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Sedona's natural beauty, passing through vibrant vegetation, towering rock formations, and serene vistas. The sense of adventure and exploration that accompanies the trek to the Vultee Arch only enhances the experience, making it a true off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Because this area is less populated and more challenging to visit, We always recommend being fully prepared with enough hydration and the proper gear to get you there safely. Be sure to visit Backcountry for all your adventure needs and make sure that you are prepared for your trip into the Sedona backcountry.

How to get there

There are two main ways you can get to Vultee Arch. The first way is by driving a 4x4/high clearance vehicle down Dry Creek Rd, just west of Sedona. This road will lead you to a turnaround area that is considered the trailhead for the Vultee Arch Trail. This is a pretty easy trail to hike at only 3.6 miles total round trip. With minimal elevation gain and great tree coverage a majority of the hike, it's a beautiful stroll through the Sedona backcountry.

The second way to access Vultee Arch is via the Sterling Pass Trail just off of 89A north of uptown Sedona. The trail is poorly marked and has no parking at the start. You will have to park nearby and walk to the trailhead or get dropped off by someone. Parking in this area fills quickly and is hard to come by. This trail is 5.1 miles long with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain. This trail is much more strenuous than the first option but is also more easily accessed since a 4x4/high clearance vehicle is not needed. I would not recommend this trail without spikes or crampons after January since there is usually snow and Ice on the trail.

Whichever route you choose, I highly recommend downloading the map from AllTrails since the trail is not well marked, especially once you get near the Arch. Many people have hiked out and were not able to find the Arch due to losing the trail at the slick rock sections. If you are looking for a more immersive experience, hire Adventure Outdoors to guide you on your journey. Our guide will be able to give you a stress free option to visit this beautiful location along with history about the area you will be hiking through.

In a place as remarkable as Sedona, it's easy for hidden treasures to go unnoticed amidst the grandeur of more well-known landmarks. The Vultee Arch stands as a testament to the mysteries waiting to be uncovered in the heart of nature's beauty. Its secluded charm, historical significance, and photogenic qualities make it a destination that's well worth the journey. So, the next time you find yourself in Sedona, consider embarking on an adventure to the Vultee Arch, and let its hidden beauty leave an unforgettable mark on your soul.
